A tree was planted in Ashcombe Park in memory of Pamela Brinscombe, the retired Woodspring Conservationist Officer responsible for the Tree Preservation Orders in North Somerset.
Pamela was a generous benefactor of a sum of two thousand pounds to Weston-super-Mare Archaeological and Natural history Society two years ago. She is well remembered locally for her interest in vernacular buildings and the conservation of the countryside. Her niece Bronwen Douse has given her full support to our project and is delighted we have chosen a Norway maple, which should enhance the Park with the splendid autumn colours.
Unfortunately Bronwen Douse was not well enough to travel from Scotland, but another relative Christine Cranmore-Morgan and her son George came and helped to plant the tree, along with the North Somerset chairman Cllr. Terry Porter,(a keen horticulturalist himself) and the Mayor and Mayoress of Weston, Mr. David Hitchens and Mrs Carol Hitchens.
We are grateful to Linda Saretock, the Tree Officer of North Somerset Council for all her professional advice in this matter.
